The Vera Institute of Justice, with support from the Michelson 20MM Foundation through our Spark Grant program, has launched a new publication titled “A Piece of the Puzzle: State Financial Aid for Incarcerated Students”. The report provides an unprecedented, state-by-state look at the current landscape of financial aid for students in prison, and the range of policies governing access from one state to another. As the campaign to reinstate Second Chance Pell for people in prison continues at the Federal level, Vera shines a light on the role state policies play in determining who is deemed “worthy” of student aid, and who is left out of the equation.
