Meet the 2026 Michelson 20MM Student Interns
Published Date
- September 15, 2026
Three student leaders are joining Michelson 20MM through our Student Engagement Program, where they will turn their ideas and lived experiences into action on pressing issues facing students today. Matched with Michelson 20MM program leads in the areas of Open Educational Resources, Smart Justice, and Student Basic Needs, each student will develop a project that addresses an issue within their focus area. Along the way, they will deepen their knowledge of their issue area, develop their advocacy and policy skills, and connect with other advocates and leaders in the field.
We believe students should have a voice in shaping the policies and systems that directly affect their lives. Through the Student Engagement Program, we hope to give students the tools, knowledge, and platform to advocate for systemic change.
“Too often, decisions in education are made for students rather than with them or by them,” said Dr. Gary K. Michelson, founder and co-chair of Michelson Philanthropies, which includes Michelson 20MM. “By centering student voices and lived experience through our internship program, philanthropy can help ensure that the solutions we invest in reflect what students truly need to thrive.”
Please join us in welcoming the 2026 Student Engagement Program interns!

Britney Do
Student Basic Needs, University of Southern California

A senior at the University of Southern California, Britney Do is studying psychology to become a clinical psychologist specializing in assessment. Through an honors thesis, she is studying jurors’ perceptions of a defendant’s guilt over the course of a law enforcement investigation and trial, and across different victim-defendant relationships. She serves as a research assistant on a meta-analysis on arts education and its effects on student outcome. She is also director of internal affairs for USC’s Mental Health Awareness for Education Staff club.
“I am most excited to contribute to a project that makes a meaningful impact on the lives of students.”
Genesi Griggs
Smart Justice, California State University, San Bernardino

Genesi is a graduate student at California State University, San Bernardino, pursuing a dual Master of Social Work and Master of Public Administration degree. She is passionate about social justice, community advocacy, leadership, and creating meaningful opportunities for individuals and communities facing barriers. Genesi has professional experience in community-based services and case coordination and is especially interested in strengthening her skills in policy, program development, and systems-level change. Her long-term goal is to use her education, professional experience, and lived experience to advocate for more equitable systems and create meaningful pathways for individuals and families who have historically faced barriers to opportunity.
“I am most excited about the opportunity to learn from the Michelson 20MM team while strengthening my skills in advocacy, leadership, and systems-level change. I also look forward to contributing to meaningful work that helps expand educational opportunities and access for others.”
Alisha Nagpal
Open Educational Resources, California State University, San Bernardino

A senior at California State University, Sacramento, Alisha is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science after transferring from Folsom Lake College. Alisha’s passion for higher education policy grew from her experience in the California Community College system. She has advocated on behalf of all 2.2 million CCC students through her work with the Student Senate for the California Community Colleges. This included testifying before the California State Legislature, working alongside policymakers and statewide education leaders, mentoring student leaders across the state, and helping students translate their lived experiences into powerful stories for policy change. She is particularly passionate about textbook affordability. Through this internship, Alisha hopes to continue to support policies increasing textbook affordability to make higher education more accessible. She plans to pursue an MPP and work to better social services, as well as increase affordability for higher education.
“I am really excited to learn more about OER policy and to be able to turn my passion for higher education affordability into action!”
We are excited to welcome our new student interns and look forward to sharing their work in the coming months.
